Hridayaragam: A Comprehensive Public Health Campaign
The Department of Health is launching ‘Hridayaragam’, a comprehensive public health campaign aimed at detecting lifestyle diseases at an early stage and ensuring the necessary diagnosis and treatment. Hridayaragam is a community-based health initiative implemented with public participation, integrating the prevention of lifestyle diseases, early screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. The primary objective of the campaign is to control the spread of lifestyle diseases and improve the overall health of the population.
The Hridayaragam campaign will be implemented through Primary Health Centres. Comprehensive screening and risk assessment will be conducted for the entire population aged 18 years and above. In the first phase, the campaign will be implemented in three Assembly constituencies: Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram district, Idukki in Idukki district, and Nilambur in Malappuram district. Specialist care, diagnostic tests, and follow-up services will also be provided through the second phase of the campaign.
Based on the screening results, each individual will be classified into one of three risk categories: Mild, Moderate, or High. Individuals identified as being at risk will be linked to appropriate healthcare services for specialist examinations, treatment, and follow-up care. The service delivery system is designed to ensure that individuals in the high-risk category receive the necessary examinations and treatment within 24 hours, while those in the other risk categories receive the required services within two weeks. Through timely interventions, the campaign aims to reduce complications and ensure effective management and continued care for lifestyle diseases.
Every individual newly diagnosed with a lifestyle disease will be registered and provided with a personal health diary. They will also be enrolled in a structured follow-up programme that includes treatment and lifestyle modifications. The major components of the campaign include household surveys, risk assessment, screening camps, health fairs, peer support groups to encourage lifestyle changes at Janakeeya Health Centres, diagnostic tests, and ensuring the availability of essential medicines.
Population-based surveys will be conducted through the SHAILI app, while screening will be carried out using the JAK PH app. Information related to diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up examinations will be recorded through the e-Health Hospital Management System. Real-time dashboards will be made available to monitor campaign activities. Survey and screening data will be digitally monitored to identify individuals who require follow-up examinations and ensure that the necessary services are provided to them.
Through the Hridayaragam campaign, lifestyle diseases can be detected early, enabling timely treatment and appropriate follow-up care. This initiative, which integrates digital technology with public participation, will help promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the burden of disease. Hridayaragam is a community-oriented healthcare initiative that focuses on preventing diseases before they occur and ensuring prompt treatment when a disease is detected.
